If you need a quick gift for a loved one that is in the hospital or to celebrate a person's special day, then you might want to go with a floral gift basket. Floral gift baskets are a great way to add color to a person's life and show that you care about him or her. Here are some tips for making a floral gift basket with real flowers.

1. Choose the Right Basket

If you choose to use real flowers for your gift basket, you are going to need to make sure that you make provisions for the flowers so that they last as long as possible. First, choose a basket that has a tight weave or use a decorative, high-sided bowl, rather than a basket. This will allow you to make sure that you can add water without it leaking everywhere.

2. Prepare the Foam

Next, purchase a block of foam that is thick enough to hold the types of flowers that you are planning on using, but small enough to fit into the basket without poking up over the top. Once you have your block of foam, pour lukewarm water and plant nutrient powder into a bowl and stir to dissolve the powder. Place the foam into the bowl of water and allow it to sit for ten to fifteen minutes in order to make sure that the foam is entirely saturated.

3. Prepare the Flowers

While you are waiting for the foam to soak, start getting your flower ready by cutting their stems off at a sharp angle. This will allow you to make sure that they can penetrate the foam easily. You are going to use the foam to place your flowers so that they are unable to easily move around, allowing you to create the perfect arrangement without having to worry about a shifting basket ruining it.

4. Assemble the Basket

Finally, take the basket and place a thick towel at the bottom. This will help soak up any additional moisture from the foam. Take the soaked block of foam and place it on top of the towel. Then, immediately start adding the flowers by poking their sharpened stems into the foam. Create your arrangement so that it looks the way you like.

Finally, tie a thick ribbon around the bottom of the basket and make a bow in order to add a splash of color to the basket itself.

By following these steps, you will be able to make a gift of which you can be proud. Contact a professional, like Joanna's Florist or another location, for more tips and ideas.
